NIHR receives a group of relatives of inmates from the Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Jau

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) received a group of relatives of inmates from the Correction and Rehabilitation Center in “Jau” at its headquarters in Al-Seef today, Thursday. The group presented several general and specific demands related to the rights of the inmates, including a call for their release through alternative sentencing.

Officials from NIHR attentively listened to the opinions and demands of the inmates' families. They emphasized the institution's commitment to applying human rights principles in all aspects of their work. The officials provided an overview of the principles that guide NIHR in its daily work, based on the Paris Principles, which set the framework for the operations of national human rights institutions worldwide.

The NIHR officials assured that these demands would be taken seriously and that they would compile a list of the inmates' names and the families' requests to be submitted to relevant authorities for consideration. They emphasized that this process would be conducted with careful attention to humanitarian aspects and in accordance with applicable laws.
